Illegal Immigration is still with us, only now it's "Migration."
The front page headline in yesterday's newspaper read, "Jobless Rate in U.S. Climbs to 5 Percent." A sub-heading read "The news causes stocks and the dollar to fall and talk of recession to grow." Is this real news to most Americans? It seems as if the only people surprised are government employees.
The store where I work sells to contractors and builders, and I have kept track the past two months of people coming into the store seeking leads on employment. During that time, twelve people have come in not to buy but to seek leads on empoyment. These were all construction related workers, and each of them had been "laid off." Twelve job seekers in two months may not sound like many, but to go from zero to about three a week is quite an increase.
In each instance, I was told that their postions had been filled by Mexicans. Please understand that I have nothing against Mexicans, and I do not blame the illegal aliens for coming here and obtaining jobs -- I would probably do the same thing in their positions. I am not sure if I would do the same thing that the builders and contractors are doing, which is firing my employees and hiring these illegal aliens.
The people with whom I visited were let go are now out of work not as a result of there being no work; indeed, the contractors and builders have quite enough work to stay as busy as they wish. Those twelve people are out of work because they were displaced by illegal immigrants, and I do not believe that these now-unemloyed carpenters, painters and concrete workers are isolated examples. What is clear is that at least some of our high unemloyment is due to some employers hiring almost three illegals for the cost of one American citizen.
We have a severe problem here in the good-old U.S.A. We are under attack and are being invaded by people who are not at all interested in joining us as a nation. Fact is, many of them are openly hostile to our culture, our values and our traditions while welcoming the benefits of living and working here.
America is receiving no help from the Catholic Church. Well, perhaps the church should not get openly involved in "political" things such as this. It might be wrong for the church to promote "American" values, culture, tradition, economy, etc. Not to worry, the church is not doing this. Instead, the church is in lockstep with the "Ban the Border" crowd. The Catholic church, at least in my diocese, has declared this "Migration Week." Parishioners are urged to welcome all immigrants ("legal and otherwise") and help them gain emloyment and receive the benefits that "they deserve."
Please tell me, am I missing something here? Why are we sitting back meekly and being bullied into giving away our jobs and tax dollars to people who not only fail to say 'Thanks,' but demand more? Why are we sitting back and listening only to talk of health care reform and environmental protection from our politicians and candidates?
Is it because Americans are afraid to face the challenge of standing up for ourselves and our culture? Or have we have been brainwashed into believing that we owe everything that anyone demands, and we are racists and bigots if we do not cheerfully go along with every social program to bring more diversity to our nation?
Now the church, at least the Catholic Church via the Council of Bishops, has proclaimed that we owe it to Christ to welcome the immigrants, legal or not. The Catholic Church has proclaimed that the week beginning January 6 is "Migration Week."
The sad thing is that we are doing it.
